Shri Deepak Kishinchand Bhojwani appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Cuba

Shri Deepak Kishinchand Bhojwani, presently Ambassador of India to Colombia, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Cuba. He is expected to take up his assignment shortly.

   
   
World Summit on the Future of Haiti- Solidarity beyond Crisis- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

The World Summit on the Future of Haiti- Solidarity beyond Crisis was held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on 2 June 2010.High level delegates from about 80 Countries and Multilateral agencies participated in this important event to formulate concrete plans for the rehabilitation of Haiti which was devastated in the 12 January 2010 earthquake. Mr Hardeep Singh Puri, Permanent Representative of India to the UN, New York and Mr Atul M Gotsurve, Charge D’ Affaires, Embassy of India comprised the Indian Delegation. During the Summit India pledged to construct one main Government office building in Port –Au Prince, Haiti. Immediately after the earthquake, India had donated cash assistance of 2 million USD to Haiti. On the margins of the event Mr Puri met with H.E Mr Leonel Fernandez, President of Dominican Republic and H.E Mr Jean Bellerive, Prime Minister of Haiti.

   
Zaida Painting Exhibition on India

On 28 May 2010 a painting exhibition on Indian themes by famous Cuban Painter Zaida Del Rio was inaugurated at the Casa de ALBA, Havana. The Event was organized by the Embassy to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between India and Cuba. Speaking on this occasion Mr Atul M Gotsurve , Charge the Affaires underscored that the event will further strengthen the bilateral relations between India and Cuba .Alma Mater ,famous dance troupe of the Havana University gave an excellent dance performance on famous Bollywood songs.

 
India- Cuba Knowledge Center

On 10 June 2010, the Convocation ceremony of 425 Cuban students in the field of LINUX operating Systems and JAVA was held at the Ministry of Information and Communications, Havana. The India- Cuba Knowledge Center, a shining example of Indo- Cuba friendship was extended by one year (2009- 2010) on the request of the Cuban Government. Within span of three years the center has trained more than 1200 Cuban students with cutting edge technologies from NIIT. Cuban vice Minister Ms Sylvia Munroz thanked India for the partnership in the field of IT. Atul M Gotsurve, Charge d’ Affaires congratulated the students and underscored the importance of advanced technologies in the well being of the societies.

 
 
Hindi Language Course At Casa de Asia

On 23 June, 10 Cuban students successfully completed the second level of Hindi language course at Casa De Asia. The course was held once a week on Thursdays from August 2009- June 2010. At the Convocation Ceremony held on 29 June 2010,Atul M Gotsurve, Charge D’ Affaires expressed that it was a wonderful experience for him to teach HINDI to the Cuban students who had the natural flair to learn the language and tremendous liking for Indian culture.
