India- Cuba strengthen ties in the agricultural sector

On 3 December ,the Cuban Vice Minister for Agriculture Mr Jose Puente met with Mr K V Kumar ,MOS for Agriculture ,Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution in New Delhi .Both leaders decided to further strengthen the bilateral co-operation in agriculture with special emphasis on collaboration between Agricultural research institutes . Mr Puente represented Cuba at the Indo -Latin Conference on Food Security, New Delhi which concluded on 2 December 2009.

Considering the strong bilateral relations India India announced a Line of Credit of 5 million USD to Cuba for the purchase of agricultural Machinery from India. The Cuban side has appreciated India’s goodwill gesture.

   
   
Forthcoming visit of MOS (ST) Dr Shashi Tharoor

Dr Shashi Tharoor, Minister for State for External Affairs will pay an official visit to Dominican Republic from 22-26 January 2010.

   
India participates in the 13th Havana International Handicraft Festival

A five member Indian Handicraftsmen delegation participated in the 13th Havana International HandiCraft Festival (FIART Spanish acronym) from December 10 to 20. President of World Craft Council (WCC) Ms Usha Krishna and General Secretary of WCC Ms Sangeet Chopra also participated in the event. The delegation met with Ambassador on 9th December. Apart from India, FIART’s 13th edition included the participation of artisans and craft workers from Argentina, Spain, Chile, Mexico and Peru, Algeria, Vietnam, Indonesia apart from the host country.

 

First India International 20-20 Cricket Tournament

The First India International 20-20 Cricket Tournament organized by the Embassy of India was inaugurated on 5th December 2009 .Delhi-Colombo, Georgetown, Havana A and Havana B are the participating teams. In the inaugural match the Delhi –Colombo team led by Mr Atul M Gotsurve, SS and comprising Embassy officials and Sri Lankan students beat Havana B with 3 wickets. Guyana won the tournament beating Havana A in the finals on 20 December 2009.
